29 Nov PSA Screening strongly recommended by private medical practices
The red sock campaign are pleased to see that some local private medical practices in Cardiff are advertising that they “strongly recommend” the PSA test for men over the age of 45.
A few interesting comments:-
How did they arrive at the age 45 for a man to have a PSA test?
Do the GPs that work for the private practice “strongly recommend” the PSA test to all men in their NHS practice?
Why was the advert run in an area away from the site of the private practice?
The red sock campaign are pleased that they recognise that prostate cancer can be detected in men younger than 50 and that they are prepared to go against the NHS guidelines.
The red sock campaign would have liked them to address the issue of the men that are most at risk of having aggressive prostate cancer i.e those men with a family history of certain cancers (prostate, breast, ovarian) and those men of African/American origins.
